How it runs

01 Conflicts
Names of parties, counsel, banks and known related entities — including current and former employers. A conflicts check the same day where we can.
02 Scope
The market questions the court actually needs answered — a barrier, a last-look fill, an independent review of a surveillance alert — and the questions it does not.
03 Evidence
Tickets, blotters, confirmations, order and trade data, chat and voice. We say early if the file cannot support the opinion asked.
04 Report
A CPR Part 35 (or arbitral equivalent) report: assumptions, method, opinion, and the limits of that opinion. Drafts are for factual correction, not advocacy.
05 Oral evidence
Available to give oral evidence in the Commercial Court, the High Court and international arbitration if required.

Solicitors, counsel, in-house lawyers, and banks seeking an independent review of their own trades or alerts. Do not send privileged papers until we have confirmed we are free to act.

Are you independent?

The duty, if instructed as an expert witness, is to the court or tribunal, not to the instructing party. No success fee is accepted. Current and former employers are disclosed at conflicts. Manuel currently reviews market-abuse alerts in the first line of defence (1LOD — the business reviewing its own trades) at NatWest Markets, and previously sat in the second line (2LOD — compliance and surveillance) at UBS.

Are you a member of a professional body for experts?

Yes. Member of the Expert Witness Institute. Reports are prepared as CPR Part 35 reports, or the arbitral equivalent.

Do you give legal advice?

No. FX Expert Services provides independent expert evidence. It does not provide legal advice or investment advice.

Do you only act on foreign exchange?

Currency markets (FX) are the specialist area. Market-abuse and surveillance files are instructed more widely — including a bank’s own review of its trades — because that work is not limited to FX. If you are not sure which expert you need, write: the first call is to see whether the file sits here.

Do you only act for banks?

No. The practice acts for whoever needs the market questions answered — claimants, defendants, regulators, and in-house teams — provided the file will bear the opinion asked.

How are fees structured?

£400 an hour for papers and conferences. £4,000 a listed day for oral evidence. Sterling, exclusive of VAT. A written estimate follows scope. No contingency — the duty is to the court.
